I know I haven't really written in here in a while, but I decided to come back and try and post more regularly.
My little pet peeve for today is....well, I'm not too sure how to really describe it in one or two words, so I'll just go straight into it.
I don't really understand why nudity is considered such a bad, terrible thing here in the States. Movies are rated much higher if just a single unclothed female breast is shown. Any nude body part is instantly censored on television, as if the sight of such a thing would have the same petrifying effect as Medusa. If our children are caught viewing something containing nudity, even accidentally, or for educational purposes, nothing but punishment ensues. I don't see why nakedness is a thing to be ashamed of.
Over in places such as the U.K., nudity isn't quite as big of a problem. From what I know, nudity is often seen in television and movies (correct me if I'm wrong about that, please), and isn't considered such a terrible thing; rather, the worst thing for a child to view would be violence: anything involving guns, killing, or torture aren't meant for childrens' eyes, which is understandable. Personally, I'd like to follow the U.K.'s approach to this, and focus more on censoring violence from a child, rather than nudity; violent movies and television can seriously effect a child in their younger years of life, and exposure to gore or such can come as a very scary shock.
On the other hand, nudity is just a part of life; everybody is born naked, so why try and hide it?
I understand the act of being decent in public places, and I'm not saying people should just go streaking everywhere, but what I'm trying to say is that I wish people didn't make such a huge deal about it; people in other countries don't make such a fuss, and they're no different from us.
Nudity is everywhere, right under your clothing. It's there when a baby is born, when you shower, and even in school. It's not like you're going to die or be badly influenced if you see something; after all, it's just some skin.
